In 2023, The Colorado Ag Water Alliance (CAWA) and our partners are funding over 30 innovative agricultural drought projects throughout the state with a total of $359,000. These projects include developing new technology to make drip irrigation possible in a much wider range of conditions, planting alternative crops, using soil health practices to reduce evaporative losses, restoring rangeland, and other water conservation improvements. Each project has a technical advisor and outside consultants will assess the impact on water use as well as other metrics like productivity, profitability, and soil health. We want to continue this work into 2024. Not only do we want to continue supporting new projects, we plan to scale-up current projects that prove to be successful. We also will continue to employ water resources consultants on every project to collect data. Phase 2 of this project will include funding new drought projects (project funding, outreach & support, and technical advisory) and scaling up successful current projects (project funding, project management, technical advisory).
